Just saw Michelle Memran’s documentary “The Rest I Make Up” on the visionary Cuban American dramatist Maria Irene Fornes, one of America’s greatest playwrights, directors and most influential theater teachers.

An amazing movie exploring the years after Maria gradually stops writing due to dementia. Edward Albee, Ellen Stewart and other theater people speak about Fornes’s work, and clips from her plays are shown along with old photographs and film footage. None of this is as rewarding as when the camera returns to Irine, whose probably the happiest person I have ever seen.
